I'll get straight to the point here...

Why Should You Stay Informed? The Wall Street Journal In Print And Online

In these current economic times it can be well worth investing US$1.99 per week in the online version of The Wall Street Journal or US$2.29 for the print version (US$2.99 for the print and online version).

If history is anything to go by then the markets will bottom and then turn upwards - but where is the bottom? This is why you need to stay informed.

If you wait until the media reports an up turn, it will be too late.

I've always followed the Tony Robbins financial methodology, which for me is, to create cash flow by operating an electrical contracting business and selling products online.

Then investing 15% of my total income (before paying any expenses) into secure assets and into growth assets at a 50/50 ratio.

For me, the secure assets (low risk, low return) are fixed return deposits and investing in our house. The growth assets (higher risk, potentially higher returns) are the share market, property and new businesses.

This methodology has worked exceptionally well for me, especially when the "financial crisis" hit. I know of many people that only invested in shares and property using loans to gain leverage... and now they are hurting.

In the good times these people got complacent and thought that the good returns would never end. They applied leverage with loans, never considering the downside. This "crisis" has forced them to re-educate themselves and the value of investing in secure assets (low risk, low return) has become very apparent.

But I have learned that it is very important to stay informed. By knowing what is happening in the markets allows you to make adjustments along the way. The way I stay informed is with The Wall Street Journal.

How I Started Making Money Using Free Blogs In My Spare Time

I am often asked how an average person with minimal computer skills and a full time job can start creating an income online... without spending a fortune...

Why 80% Good Beats 100% Perfect Every Time

We have all heard that practice makes perfect, but I am here to tell you that the pursuit of perfection in the world of online marketing can lead to Stuck City, or worse, Nothing Gets Done Town. One of the reasons why many business owners whose revenue depends on online marketing can’t get going or aren’t doing any better than running an expensive hobby is because they are suffering from perfection paralysis.

Perfection paralysis takes many forms; a writer having writer’s block, an artist sitting in front of a blank canvas, or the internet marketer who promises a newsletter but never delivers. I know many (including me) who suffer from perfection paralysis in some form, but I think I have a cure. I’ve come to believe that 80% good is better than 100% perfect.

Stop Perfecting and Start Doing

It was midnight and Patty Perfect was on her fourth draft of her article. She had chosen her words carefully, crafting a masterpiece of words and thoughts about her feelings of the state of junk e-mail in today’s society. She spots a typo here and a missing comma there. She types and retypes, reviews, and asks for feedback from her husband. Patty is worried - worried about what her audience will think of her and how the public will judge her. She is paralyzed at the thought of her tour de force not being perfect. Days later, she finally relents and posts to her blog.

Meanwhile, Grant Goodenough was multitasking as usual. He was taking notes while attending a one-hour teleclass and hears some great advice about what to include and exclude in e-mail “subject lines” – a hot topic with his clients. He quickly types up a couple of paragraphs thinking how he and his client, Coach Sally, were just talking about this very topic earlier today! Ok, so it wasn’t the work of art that he would have liked, but he posts to his blog anyway.

It’s the relationship that counts

Let’s be honest, no one is perfect. No matter how hard you try, your e-course will have a grammar error (someone will tell you and you will fix it), you will accidentally send a broadcast to a list you didn’t intend to (who knows, maybe you’ll get a client out of it :)) and, yes, a newsletter will have a broken hyperlink (it’s not the end of the world).

I know I may catch some grief for saying these things, but I’ve been doing this for awhile and trust me, it happens to everyone - even the internet marketing heavy hitters! What’s most important is that it gets done and that you maintain your relationship with your clients and subscribers.

Don’t get me wrong, I strive for perfection. Nothing makes me cringe like a giant typo front and center on an ezine headline. But I look at it this way … at least I’m getting the ezine! I know many people who are hung up on their newsletter, web page, you name it, being “perfect” that nothing gets done.

No newsletter = no relationship, no connection, no subscribers, no nothing.

I don’t know about you, but I’ll take Goodenough over Perfect any day. So, stop perfecting and start doing!

Where Is The Real Money In Blogging?

There are two types of bloggers in the world - The reporters and the experts.

Expert bloggers will usually perform both roles. It's easy for an expert to report, but it’s hard for a reporter to become an expert.

If you have ever taken an Internet marketing course or attended a seminar specifically for beginners, you have probably heard about the two different methodologies.

Usually these courses and seminars teach people to start as reporters, and if possible, step up as an expert.

I’ll be frank... You Want To Be The Expert!

People buy from experts. Reporters leverage the content of the experts. In most cases people start off as reporters because they haven’t established expertise.

Experts enjoy the perks of preeminence, higher conversion rates because of perceived value. Experts find it easier to get publicity.

Clients are more likely to seek you out rather than you having to seek them out. Joint ventures are easier.

Basically, experts make more money and attract more attention!

Expertise requires experience. You can not become an expert without doing things and learning. New bloggers usually start out without expertise and as a result begin their blogging journey by talking about everything going on in their niche (reporting) and by interviewing and talking about other experts (reporting again).

There’s nothing wrong with reporting of course and for many people it’s a necessity at first until you build up some expertise.

Unfortunately the ratios are pretty skewed when it comes to reporters and experts - there are a lot more reporters than there are experts, hence reporters tend to struggle to gain attention and when they do, they often just enhance the reputation of the expert they are reporting on.

Don’t Replicate Your Teacher

If you have ever spent some time browsing products in the learn Internet marketing niche you will notice a pattern.

Many people first study Internet Marketing from a "guru." The guru teaches how he or she is able to make money online, and very often the view that the student takes is that in order to make money online you have to teach others how to make money online.

The end result of this process is a huge army of amateurs attempting to replicate what their teacher does in the same industry - the Internet marketing industry - not realizing that without expert status based on a proven record and all the perks that come with it, it’s next to impossible to succeed.

Even people, who enjoy marginal success, say for example growing an email list of 1,000 people, then go out and launch a product about how to grow an email list of 1,000 people.

Now I have no problems with that, I think it’s fine to teach beginners and leverage whatever achievements you have, the problem is that people gravitate to the same niche - Internet marketing - and rarely have any key points of differentiation.

How many products out there do you know of that all claim to teach the same things - email marketing, SEO, pay per click, affiliate marketing, and all the sub-niches that fall under the category of Internet marketing.

It’s a saturated market, yet when you see your teachers and other gurus making money teaching others how to make money (and let’s face it - making money as a subject is one of the most compelling) - your natural inclination is to follow in their footsteps.

If the key is to become an expert and you haven’t spent the last 5-10 years making money online, I suggest you look for another niche to establish expertise in.

Report on Your Process, Not Others

The secret to progress from reporter to expert is not to focus on other experts and instead report on your own journey.

When you are learning how to do something and implementing things day by day, or studying other people’s work, you need to take your process and what you do as a result of what you learn, and use it as content for your blog.

It’s okay to talk about experts when you learn something from them, but always relate it to what you are doing.

If you learn a technique from an expert it’s fine to state you learned it from them (and affiliate link to their product too!) But you should then take that technique, apply it to what you are doing and then report back YOUR results, not their’s.

Frame things using your opinion - your stories - and don’t regurgitate the expert comments.

The key is differentiation and personality, not replication.

Expertise comes from doing things most people don’t do and then talking about it. If you do this often enough you wake up one day as an expert, possibly without even realizing how it happened, simply because you were so good at reporting what you did.

You Are Already An Expert

Most people fail to become experts (or perceived as experts) because they don’t leverage what they already know.

Every person who lives a life learns things as they go, takes action every day and knows something about something.

The reason why they never become an expert is because they choose not to (which is fine for some, as not everyone wants to be an expert). But if your goal is to blog your way to expertise and leave the world of reporting behind you have to start teaching and doing so by leveraging real experience.

Experience can come from what you do today and what you have done previously; you just need to take enough steps to demonstrate what you already know, and what you are presently learning along your journey.

I know so many people in my life, who are experts simply by virtue of the life they have lived, yet they are so insecure about what they know, they never commit their knowledge to words for fear of… well, fear!

Blogs and the Web in general, are amazing resources when you leverage them as a communication tool to spread your expertise because of the sheer scope of people they can reach.

If all you ever do is talk to people in person and share your experience using limited communication mediums, you haven’t much hope of becoming an expert.

Take what you know and show other people through blogging, and you might be surprised how people change their perception of you in time.

Reporting Is A Stepping Stone

If your previous experience and expertise is from an area you want to leave behind or you are starting from "scratch", then reporting is the path you must walk, at least for the short term.

Reporting is a lot of fun. Interviewing experts, talking about what other people are doing and just being part of a community is not a bad way to blog.

In many cases people make a career of reporting - journalism is just that. But if you truly want success and exponential results, at some point you will have to stand up and proclaim yourself as someone who is good at something, and then proceed to demonstrate it over and over again.

Have patience and focus on what you do to learn, and then translate that experience into lessons for others. And remember, it’s okay to be a big fish in a small pond, that’s all most experts really are.

Eventually once you establish enough momentum you gain what is called "traction", which is a large enough audience base (about 500 readers a day is good) that you no longer have to work too hard on finding new readers. Instead your current loyal readers do the work for you through word of mouth.

Top 10 Tips

1 - Write at least five major "pillar" articles.

A pillar article is a tutorial style article aimed to teach your audience something. Generally they are longer than 500 words and have lots of very practical tips or advice. This article you are currently reading could be considered a pillar article since it is very practical and a good "how-to" lesson. This style of article has long term appeal, stays current (it isn’t news or time dependent) and offers real value and insight. The more pillars you have on your blog the better.

2 - Write one new blog post per day minimum.

Not every post has to be a pillar, but you should work on getting those five pillars done at the same time as you keep your blog fresh with a daily news or short article style post. The important thing here is to demonstrate to first time visitors that your blog is updated all the time so they feel that if they come back tomorrow they will likely find something new. This causes them to bookmark your site or subscribe to your blog feed.

You don''t have to produce one post per day all the time but it is important you do when your blog is brand new. Once you get traction you still need to keep the fresh content coming but your loyal audience will be more forgiving if you slow down to a few per week instead. The first few months are critical so the more content you can produce at this time the better.

3 - Use a proper domain name.

If you are serious about blogging be serious about what you call your blog. In order for people to easily spread the word about your blog you need an easily remembed domain name. People often talk about blogs they like when they are speaking to friends in the real world (that''s the offline world, you remember that place right?)

So you need to make it easy for them to spread the word and pass on your URL. Try and get a .com if you can and focus on small easy to remember domains rather than worry about having the correct keywords (of course if you can get great keywords and easy to remember then you’ve done a good job!)

4 - Start commenting on other blogs.

Once you have your pillar articles and your daily fresh smaller articles your blog is ready to be exposed to the world. One of the best ways to find the right type of reader for your blog is to comment on other people’s blogs. You should aim to comment on blogs focused on a similar niche topic to yours since the readers there will be more likely to be interested in your blog.

Most blog commenting systems allow you to have your name/title linked to your blog when you leave a comment. This is how people find your blog. If you are a prolific commenter and always have something valuable to say then people will be interested to read more of your work and hence click through to visit your blog.

5 - Trackback and link to other blogs in your blog posts.

A trackback is sort of like a blog conversation. When you write a new article to your blog and it links or references another blogger''s article you can do a trackback to their entry. What this does is leave a truncated summary of your blog post on their blog entry - it's sort of like your blog telling someone else’s blog that you wrote an article mentioning them. Trackbacks often appear like comments.

This is a good technique because like leaving comments a trackback leaves a link from another blog back to yours for readers to follow, but it also does something very important - it gets the attention of another blogger. The other blogger will likely come and read your post eager to see what you wrote about them. They may then become a loyal reader of yours or at least monitor you and if you are lucky some time down the road they may do a post linking to your blog bringing in more new readers.

6 - Encourage comments on your own blog.

One of the most powerful ways to convince someone to become a loyal reader is to show there are other loyal readers already following your work. If they see people commenting on your blog then they infer that your content must be good since you have readers so they should stick around and see what all the fuss is about. To encourage comments you can simply pose a question in a blog post. Be sure to always respond to comments as well so you can keep the conversation going.

7 - Submit your latest pillar article to a blog carnival.

A blog carnival is a post in a blog that summarizes a collection of articles from many different blogs on a specific topic. The idea is to collect some of the best content on a topic in a given week. Often many other blogs link back to a carnival host and as such the people that have articles featured in the carnival often enjoy a spike in new readers.

To find the right blog carnival for your blog, do a search at blogcarnival.com.

8 - Submit your blog to blogtopsites.com.

To be honest this tip is not going to bring in a flood of new readers but it''s so easy to do and only takes five minutes so it''s worth the effort. Go to Blog Top Sites, find the appropriate category for your blog and submit it. You have to copy and paste a couple of lines of code on to your blog so you can rank and then sit back and watch the traffic come in. You will probably only get 1-10 incoming readers per day with this technique but over time it can build up as you climb the rankings. It all helps!

9 - Submit your articles to EzineArticles.com.

This is another tip that doesn’t bring in hundreds of new visitors immediately (although it can if you keep doing it) but it''s worthwhile because you simply leverage what you already have - your pillar articles. Once a week or so take one of your pillar articles and submit it to Ezine Articles. Your article then becomes available to other people who can republish your article on their website or in their newsletter.

How you benefit is through what is called your "Resource Box". You create your own resource box which is like a signature file where you include one to two sentences and link back to your website (or blog in this case). Anyone who publishes your article has to include your resource box so you get incoming links. If someone with a large newsletter publishes your article you can get a lot of new readers at once.

10 - Write more pillar articles.

Everything you do above will help you to find blog readers however all of the techniques I’ve listed only work when you have strong pillars in place. Without them if you do everything above you may bring in readers but they won’t stay or bother to come back. Aim for one solid pillar article per week and by the end of the year you will have a database of over 50 fantastic feature articles that will work hard for you to bring in more and more readers.

I hope you enjoyed my list of traffic tips. Everything listed above are techniques I’ve put into place myself for my blogs and have worked for me, however it''s certainly not a comprehensive list. There are many more things you can do. Finding readers is all about testing to see what works best for you and your audience and I have no doubt if you put your mind to it you will find a balance that works for you.

Yaro Starak Lives The Bloggers Dream... Or Does He?

With an average income of $10,000 per month, working 3 to 4 hours a day, traveling around the world while working... Does Yaro Starak live a bloggers dream?

Lets look at it... say Yaro works 4 hours a day, 350 days a year (got to have some days doing nothing) thats 1,400 hours a year to earn $120,000 ($10,000 x 12) which works out to $85.71 per hour.

That's worst case scenario, because Yaro probably works less hours over the year and his income will be growing as he tweaks his blog. More posts means more exposure to product, more people on his list, more sales, etc.

Rosalind Gardner and Anik Singal have done Wordpress proud.

For years I've been persisting with my blogger blogs... thinking "it's owned by Google, so from an SEO stand point its gotta be a good thing!"

Well Rosalind and Anik have done a superb job with the free content they are providing at Blog Classroom and I'm convinced that Wordpress is the way to go. The plugins, the customization, the flexibility and the look of Wordpress blogs make it an absolute no-brainer way to go.

So what to do with my blogger blogs? Is there a way to convert them or maybe just set them up in a new directory with the last blogger post saying "Click here for our new blog."

eBay Policy Changes = More Money For Me AND YOU!!

As of tomorrow, eBay will not allow sales of digitally delivered products, as an auction listing. But you can still sell them via their classified ads, provided you have an external site to do that with.

So what does that mean?

Well I think it's a good thing. It's certainly been good for me as I have become a very lazy seller on eBay, because of all the automation. Months ago I thought that I should convert my ebooks into physical products, but just never got around to it.

It is very easy to become complacent, while making money online. Frustrating in the beginning as you test and test... and test! But when something starts selling, the laziness seems to set in. Its easier to move onto the next best thing.

So the eBay deadline has been like a size 12 kicking me in the butt... And I'll probably end up making more money!!

What The Heck Are You Waiting For?

Really, what are you waiting for?

You do want Financial freedom don't you? You want to spend your life doing what you want to do, not having to worry about where the next dollar is coming from, not having to cringe when you collect the post and see all the bills?

I'm reading "The Millionaire Next Door" by Thomas J. Stanley and William D. Danko. They say "The median (typical) household in America has a net worth of less than $15,000, excluding home equity."

That is scary, and yet is so easy to change. My Saturday morning task is to update my score sheets... I calculate my cash flow for the financial year up to that date, then I update my Net Worth Statement, and then I compare them to my goals. You see, I believe if you are not keeping score of your life then it's like playing cricket or soccer without keeping score... It becomes pointless! Maybe fun short term but mostly pointless long term.

Now my Wife sometimes doesn't agree, because while I'm thinking that the $1,000 I've just earned will buy some great blue chip shares, my Wife is wanting the latest gym equipment... so we have to draw a line in the sand! I admit that when I'm on a mission, I tend to get overly focused... if that's possible... oops!

This is what Brian Tracy has to say:

The world seems to belong to those who reach out and grab it with both hands. It belongs to those who do something rather than just wish and hope and plan and pray, and intend to do something someday, when everything is just right.

Successful people are not necessarily those who make the right decisions all the time. No one can do that, no matter how smart he is. You can never be completely sure that any action or behavior is going to bring about the desired result. There is always a risk. And where there is risk, there is fear. And whatever you think about grows in your mind and heart. People who think continually about the risks involved in any undertaking soon become preoccupied with fears and doubts and anxieties that conspire to hold them back from trying in the first place.

So, go out and achieve, test that idea you have, explore new options, stop waiting for tomorrow, stop waiting for the stars to align, or the bank balance to be just right, because it never will!!

I read somewhere that 2008 is the beginning, the start... because 2 + 0 + 0 + 8 = 10 and 1 + 0 = 1. I also read somewhere that 1 is my lucky number and, believing that I create my own luck, I am ecstatic about the success I am going to achieve in 2008.

My journal was updated with my 12 month and 5 year goals before the clock struck 12. My office and life was decluttered and everything cleaned and organised to go, go, GO in 2008!!

Huh... That turns the age old saying "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail" right on its head!

But Stephen Pierce has got a point...

He says that it is not possible to plan in a contested environment... because of the unpredictability.

And so, by not planning you can actually win, provided you have a strategy.

Like driving your car from one place to another. You can have a strategy such as I'll drive from point A, turn left then stop at point B. I'll drive at the speed limit, I'll try and anticipate what the other drivers will do in my path, etc.

But, you can't plan the trip because there are factors out of your control, like another driver turning in front of you, delays, etc.

A plan only works in a controlled environment, like baking a cake in your kitchen. You have a recipe, you know exactly what ingredients are required, how long it needs to be baked, etc.

So, your home based business needs a strategy not a plan. You can't have a plan because you can't control most of the outcomes.

A strategy allows flexibility and gets rid of any tunnel vision... And your home based business is shaped by the strategy outcomes.

My Secret Weapon!

Jim Rohn says "If you are serious about becoming a wealthy, powerful, sophisticated, healthy, influential, cultured and unique individual, keep a journal. Don't trust your memory. When you listen to something valuable, write it down. When you come across something important, write it down."

Jim goes on to say that he used to write notes on bits of paper, backs of envelopes and ended up with a drawer full of bits of paper. Then he found that the best way to organize those ideas was with a journal.

I used to be the same, until I took Jim's advice and started using a journal.

He sells these great 250 page leather journals that are small enough to be carried anywhere, but big enough to capture the ideas, thoughts, drawings, sketches and what ever else I decide to put into it.

In my journal I enter my information in date and time order. And at the back of my journal I have an index where I categorise the important ideas with page numbers, like:
"Income Ideas - page 32, 41, 76."

I've found this works best for me, as I used to dedicate pages for certain areas but I seemed to end up with bits and pieces all over the place.

I also find that by putting everything in date and time order that I see distinct trends in my thinking - positive or negative. By re-reading my journal weekly I quickly identify any trends that are not going to help me succeed, and then I can adjust them accordingly.

I always record any strong emotions I feel... In fact I think this is undoubtedly the best part of this process. If I'm down or depressed, I'll write about it in great detail... what I'm feeling, what I think caused it, what I'm going to do about it. Nobody else reads my journal so I don't hold back and in almost every case just by writing about it helps tremendously to deal with the emotion.

I've also found that by re-reading my journal I usually see exactly what triggered that emotion and can do things differently next time. I love my journal mostly for this reason but it has many, many other great benefits.

When I feel on top of the world... I write about it and make sure I do more of what ever it was that created that emotion.

My journal is a story book of my life, but I've found it to be an invaluable tool to my success. It is also great to have everything in one place, and also makes for very good reading...

Exercise Is For Those With No Life...

Exercise... sometimes it seems like it's such a waste of time!

I've had my times of walking for an hour a day, running to one lamp post and walking to the next, then running again... all in the hope of losing weight and feeling good.

But, when you are over 40, like me... it just doesn't seem to work as well. Far too much effort, for such little gain... in my opinion!

I've lost a kilo here or there doing that, but the results just aren't worth it. I mean most days exercise soaks up a good hour and a half after the shower. And afterwards I was so tired sometimes I'd want to go to sleep... zzzzzzzzzzz

Without a doubt, the best results I've got are from being on the Cohen Diet... losing 15kgs in less than 6 weeks, being on a diet where I actually struggled to eat all the food... and absolutely no exercise :)

But now I've realised that being thinner feels better, but I've got these thin girl arms... and I'm not as strong as I used to be.

So I've designed myself a program which takes 10 minutes 3 times a day... even I can exert myself for 10 minutes at a time!

And, it gets me off my bum 3 times a day more than before... the joys of being an internet marketer stuck behind a screen 9 hours a day!

I started this program a week ago:
10 squats, then 10 pushups, then 10 situps at 10am, 12pm and 3pm every week day.

The next day I increased the reps to 11, the next day 12 reps and today I'm up to 19 reps of each... and I feel good!

I might get to 20 reps and stay there for a week and increase it to 21 reps for the next week... cause its getting a bit tough... but considering that I struggled to do 10 reps just over a week ago, it's a great improvement.

Slowly, slowly to catch the monkey!!

I'm a little stiff in the chest which means those muscles are working hard. I figured that because this program is quick and simple I'm more likely to make it a habit.

And the thing is at 10 reps each x 3 times a day x 365 days = 10,950 squats, 10,950 push ups and 10,950 sit ups I'll do in a year at the minimum.

Now if I'm doing 50 of each, 3 times a day... that's 54,750 reps per year of each exercise...

Simple but effective... try it...

STOP sweating the big stuff

Don't you hate it... someone tells you not to stress when you are stressing??

Well on the weekend I tried ftping my newly modified webpage to the remote server and it kept coming back with... 'Unable to Establish a Data Connection.'

What the #*@%!!

3 days later, after a whole heap of trying and Google'ing I finally find out that my trusty D-link DSL-G604T wireless ADSL Router is the problem... it needs a firmware upgrade.

Why now??

Well it should be simple right... download the new firmware, load it, reboot the modem and BINGO!!

No chance... my modem decides to spit the dummy across the room, through all the toys out of its cot, corrupt the firmware and lock up solidly... aaarghhhh!!!

So off I go to the D-link site and troubleshoot the problem. Fortunately their knowledge base is well detailed and written for dummy's so I can understand it, and 4 hours later I'm back in the game... phew!!

Now what was I supposed to have done in the last 3 days...

The First Day of the New Me

The first day on my new diet and I feel like I've been hit by a tonne of bricks. My head is pounding from the detox and I'm just surviving. The portions are small and I'm constantly in the toilet from all the water I'm drinking...

I'm told it gets better... I hope so!

I've realized how I've been overeating all this time and it is going to be great to get down to my goal weight and feel terrific as my body functions better.

And feeling terrific is going to make me more efficient and create more cashflow... YES!!

Today I weighed in at 98.2 kgs and my goal weight is 85 kgs which I should achieve in 6 to 8 weeks. Wooohooo lets go.... aaaargh that hurt my head...

Why Is Good Asset Allocation Vital for Everyone?

It is incredible how much learning I can do in my car as I travel around the West Australian countryside. A trip to and from my home town Bunbury to Perth results in 4 hours of education. I've never enjoyed traveling so much. I must admit I can't do this when my family is in the car though!

I just had to share what Anthony Robbins taught me on my last trip. I always knew that I should be paying myself first and that a minimum of 10% should be taken out of my earnings and saved. But I guess I'm like most people in that if I have savings I want to get the best possible return from it, for obvious reasons.

Anthony teaches to take out 10% of your earnings, as they go into your bank account for investing. That's before you've paid any bills... to satisfy the "pay yourself first" rule.

The 10% should be divided into 2 buckets, a security bucket and a growth bucket. The ratio of this division should be about 60/40. 60% into your security bucket and 40% into your growth bucket. This ratio is dependant on your age and how risk adverse you are. But as an absolute minimum 30% must go into your security bucket.

The money in your security bucket then gets invested in secure, low risk investments that may include your own house, bonds, term deposits or any managed funds with a low risk. This bucket benefits from compounding over time and shouldn't be touched until you retire.

The money in your growth bucket is invested in higher risk investments, like share trading, property investing and business. Basically you are trying to gain that 100% or more growth per year. However once profits are generated in this bucket, a third of the profit is to be taken out and put in the security bucket and another third into a Toys bucket, while the last third is re-invested in this bucket.

The toys bucket is what pays for that new car, TV, etc.

It's a great concept and one I've implemented straight away. Now if you are like I was, you're probably thinking that the return on the security bucket will only be about 4 or 5%, so why bother. Well Anthony has a few testimonials why this is so incredibly important. Basically it is to create security, as the bucket is named, as very often we invest aggressively and get too big for our boots. It saves us from losing absolutely everything in those times when the market turns abruptly... and it does happen, whether you are in shares, property or business. Ask me, I know!

Oh No, I Got Caught Again!

Another week, another dollar earned or maybe not... but a whole heap of promotion was accomplished today.

Don't you hate it when you have a plan and then you read something else that makes you doubt that plan. I said to myself that in 2007 I wasn't buying any ebooks unless they were recommended by Jim Edwards (I'm part of his membership site.)

But today up pops this email promoting this person that generated $2.2 million in 9 months on eBay. So I let the guard down and bought the ebook... after all I thought it just might teach me something new!!

After spending an hour reading it, it taught me nothing, absolutely nothing I didn't already know. Should I ask for a refund... No, I hate doing that. Maybe I've learnt my lesson now.

But for you there is a lesson that took me 12 months to learn and a whole heap of wasted money. Choose one strategy, focus on it and persist. They all work, but people tend to jump from one to the other, don't persist with any and then give up, saying "This stuff doesn't work" when it does.

Big Hairy Goals And They're Off!

Wow 2007 is off to a great start. I've never been more organised for a new year as I've been this year... it's awesome!!

I've got some great goals this year, the biggest being that I want to be passively earning $775 per day (consistently and after expenses) by the 30th Dec 07. That's money coming in without me doing any work!

I've got a detailed plan to do this with real estate and virtual real estate (online) and after breaking it down into monthly steps of what needs to be done, it looks very achievable...

So I've got my journal going, which is update daily and as of today I've been very productive and charging ahead. Every morning starts off with a 30 minute walk with some running, then some Matt Furey push ups, sit ups and back strengthening exercises. Then it's a shower, breakfast and then a 20 minute Optimindzation session which focuses me and gives me the mental endurance I need.

My January plan is $10 per day and eBay seems to be providing that quite nicely. I'm going for the low hanging fruit at this stage and eBay has the buyers so some quickly produced information products are doing the trick. I still have a bit to learn as I seem to get a flurry of activity and then nothing. I think it's to do with the times the listings are ending. I'm going to test this.

Where has this year gone?

It is just unbelievable how fast the years go once you get over the big Four Zero... Every time I look at the kids they look older and taller and the wife... well we won't go there... she's actually ageing very well although in her mind she doesn't think so... typical!!

Well 2006 has almost gone and what have I accomplished. The biggest accomplishment I would say would have to be a full year of working at home. I mean, I've been self-employed for a long time, but this year is by far the best in terms of bottom line profit. I have also spent almost 12 months operating online businesses, and must say this has been a massive, steep learning curve... And a time consuming one at that.

An online business is a big challenge for me, as I tend to be an ADHD entrepreneur, bouncing from 1 great idea to another, and ultimately not achieving very much. I have got serious in the last month and with the help of Stephen Pierce's brain entrainment program I will only be working on one project at a time, until it is finished, in 2007.

I have made the mistake in 2006 of listening to too many guru's, trying to absorb too much information and ended up chasing my tail... I have unsubscribed off most of these guru's lists and am limiting my contact to Jim Edwards predominately. I have calculated that Jim earns $77k per month from one of his membership sites so I believe I can learn a lot from him.

Pemberton in Western Australia

It's just so amazing in this business to have the time flexibility to attend the kids sports days, assemblies and take a long weekend whenever we like.

Although I tend to work late at night I find I'm most creative then. Family is asleep, no phones ringing and I just get so much done. The next morning I might think "geeezz I should have gone to bed earlier" but it's worth it in the end.

Our latest long weekend was a trip to Pemberton in Western Australia. Beautiful countryside and so relaxing. the cottages were very comfortable, with great beds and a view to die for.

We stayed on a working farm and the kids loved feeding the lambs, cows, chickens, goats, donkey's and the wild birds. It's just so amzing to get away from it all and live in the country. We envied the owners of the farm as they certainly have a very special place there.

Being energetic people we conquered a 10km walk on the Saturday. We saw a couple of people at the beginning of the walk and no-one else for the rest... a little daunting being in the middle of no-where but the views, smells and bird noises kept us intrigued.

It was a special weekend and another one to add to our memories.

I sometimes get frustrated with where I am at in my life. I think I'm stagnating, not growing as quickly as I should, but the truth is we need to grow for sometime, then relax... Smell the roses, and then grow again. We all have to constantly ensure that we are expanding our comfort zones and not just living within the one we are currently in.

Everybody loves being comfortable. We don't like being put in a position where we are not comfortable for too long. However, being comfortable is not always healthy. How many times have you decided not to join something or start something because it was out of your comfort zone?

In life, you will eventually be faced with a situation or challenge, that will require you to step out of your comfort zone. And you are probably thinking "No way!" But if you don't, you just don't grow. The only way to excel is to be trying new things and improving every day.

Back in Africa the locals we lived with ate the same food every meal, depending on what they could afford. But mostly it consisted of sadza (ground maize cooked into a thick porridge form), ration meat (cheapest cut of beef) and relish. Imagine eating the same food for every meal every day, every week, every year for the rest of your life. I would find this very dull and boring.

It's the same for our lives. If you do the same-old, same-old every day, not trying new experiences, not allowing yourself to step out and be challenged, then sure, you may still live a life of some satisfaction....But wouldn't it be great when you are old and grey, sitting in your rocking chair not regretting anything, not wishing "if only I had..."

I have always lived my life by stepping out of my comfort zone and I often wonder how my wife and family put up with it. Our biggest step was moving from Zimbabwe to Australia, from a third world country to a first world country. It was scary, the money we had earned previously was worthless, we were middle aged with 2 young kids and going to start our lives over. Would we be accepted, would we find jobs, would we be happy. 8 years later and we are thoroughly enjoying our lives. This experience, this huge step out of our comfort zone set us up for life. It proved that we could do anything if we really wanted to.

Comfort zones are just that, comfortable, but try and step out of it once in a while and see what happens... It's not as scary as you think.

I believe we should always be learning. To grow we need to learn. Many people don't invest in property for fear of losing their hard earned money. They read or hear a story in the media about how a tenant trashes an investors property and then use that as an excuse not to invest. It's justified in their mind why they don't invest. But if they read a few books and educated themselves, they would soon find out that this happens in a very small percentage of cases and investing in the right property will vastly improve their finances and welth over time.

Being comfortable is perfectly all right..It's's safe, there is no stress, but it's average. By learning new things, learning about how to improve as a person, trying different things is not only exciting, but it leads to a far better life.

Just like fish in a tank will only grow to a size that suits the tank. You need to continually grow and challenge yourself until you have filled your current environment. Then you are ready to move on to the next stage of your life.

Challenge yourself and step out of that comfort zone today.

I just naturally love having lots of different projects at the same time. I mean at this stage I have 7 different internet based projects, I have a data cabling job to complete, I trade options at night, I'm busy helping a friend sell a house and then I help local small businesses implement direct marketing strategies... pheeew, that's a lot of work.

But I wouldn't have it any other way. I would get bored if I went to the same job day in day out. But it does get a bit much at times and I start get tired during the day from lack of sleep. Often I have to say, enough is enough, and go to bed... But it's fun.

Crazy stuff, but I see people going to work, sitting behind the same desk, doing the same things everyday, speaking to the same people, with that same "I hate this" look on their face and I think... Life is short, don't waste it, get out there, take some risks and do something!!

It took me an hour to read the ebook which is incredibly easy for anyone to understand and spent the next half hour doing some research, finding someone elses ebook to sell and setting up some cheap Google advertising.

Then I sat back and waited... 1 week later and I've generated $123.82 less my advertising cost which leaves a $59.87 profit. Now I've set this up in 30 minutes and it doesn't require any other effort it just continues to run in the background. My calculations are if it produces $59.87 in 1 week that equals over $3 000 per year. Even if it only does half of that I will be ecstatic with the returns for half an hours work.

Focus, Focus, Focus

When life gets exciting the hours, days, weeks and years fly by. If only I knew 10 years ago what I know now!! I've just got so much happening, special reports to write, sites to put up, forums to read, blog themes to change, property deals to view, options trading , family time, and more.

But I'm focused and my goals are in place. Every day I get one step closer. I've limited the noise in my life, cut out the distractions and just need to find the PA so I can leverage more.

An update:
Online - I've selected Jim Edwards and Yanik Silver as my mentors and will be ignoring information from everyone else. www.profitfitness.com is going great and I'm getting about 1 opt in a day. This week I'll be changing that site to the mini site strategy Jim talks about.
Property - I'm looking at other properties but it looks like Bunbury has become way too hot so I'm going to look at Esperance and Perth.
Options trading - I've applied all I learned in "trading in the zone" however it hasn't worked to date but the US market appears all over the place at this stage. I will perservere...

Moving from Blogger to my own domain

Why is it that online what looks like a 10 minute job always takes a whole day? Maybe it's to do with the fact that I'm an Aquarian, a natural perfectionist. Sometimes it's a big obstacle being a perfectionist because everything tends to take 4 times as long. I can't start until the pencils are sharpened, the desk is clear, the coffee is the right temp, the to do list is updated... and then I look at the blogs and sites I've created and don't like a colour, which I liked 2 weeks ago, so I change it, but then the links are in the wrong position so they get moved and on it goes. I just can't get it - good enough is good enough. As long as the site makes money and I've applied what I've learned, move on, do the next one. Oh well I'll get there.

As of today I have 36 adsense sites up earning $$ and am averaging about $13 a day. Which is pretty good considering they have only been up about 3 weeks. I need to add some affiliate links in amongst the content to further improve the income from these sites and then concentrate heavily on promoting them. As of tomorrow I'll starting listing some ideas for generating some of my own products and also investigate the Success University program I've been advised to look at. It cost $1 and they guide you through starting an online business and you get access to heaps of material about self development.

So much to do with an online business, always stuff to learn but I have got better at focusing and ignoring all the stuff that attempts to distract me. I'll get there, I know I will...

Walking Trails with the Family

What a let down last night for Channel 9, the first interview with Todd and Brant, the miners trapped for 14 days almost 1km underground. I was looking forward to hearing the details of their amazing story and instead after 2 hours I was left confused, as some of the details did not compute, and aggravated with the amount of ads they crammed in. Tracy seemed to be focusing on Todd and not encouraging Brant to answer more... especially when asked if they thought the mine was at fault. Not great viewing, it could have been done so much better, but I take my hat off to the boys for surviving that ordeal. Something that I got out of the interview is Todd's previous selfishness by choosing to go hunting rather than have a family day. Since the "great escape" he has changed his priorities and the loved ones come first. It's sad that most of us don't fully appreciate what we have until it's gone or there is a scare. For us having come from a 3rd world country we always remember the hard times but also catch ourselves every now and again taking things for granted... suppose we are only human.

Well it's another fabulous week and the weather is overcast with a forecast of rain on the way... always happens when I wash the cars, but I'm not complaining, we need the rain. Yesterday, Sunday we decided to do a bit of trekking in the Ferguson Valley. This area is undulating, very scenic and only about 40kms inland from Bunbury. So lunch was a couple of great pizzas and off we drove and found the Ferguson Forest trails. Now if you like walking amongst huge Jarrah trees and lush vegetation these trails are excellent for day trails. The bird life was amazing which pleased the kids to no end as they spotted Blue Finches to Red tailed Black Cockatoos to Kookaburras and more. It was a very special family day, not another person around, walking through thick Australian bush, expecting to see a snake at any time, getting lost and listening to the birds. It doesn't get better than this!!

What a wonderful, winning week

I just love those days and weeks when everything falls into place and just goes right with little effort. It started with the V8 Supercar racing in Perth on the weekend. It's been a year since I got my dose of smoking tyres, raw V8 sound and just great atmosphere. My dream is to own one of those teams and it's when I go to these meetings that the hairs on my arms stand up, the goose-bumps go wild and the shiver down my spine is awesome... I can feel it now and I'm not even there!! It always amazes me, the professionalism, the skill and that the top 20 cars have lap times within 0.5 second of each other. For the first time both kids come with me (normally only the eldest comes) and it was fantastic... camping under the full moon, talking absolute nonsense till we fell asleep and waking up real early to claim our spot at the track. We got the caps and ate lots of junk, but it was great!

I was feeling so great after the weekend that for the first time I jogged constantly for 20 minutes on Tuesday morning. Now considering a month ago I struggled to do 5 minutes and I weigh 100kgs (about 15kgs overweight) this is a big win for me. I'm now determined to run constantly for 30 mins by the end of the month... Just been hampered with headaches at the back of my head and a stiff neck. I think it might be my posture at the computor so I'm trying to sit on a ball.

And then there was the wonderful put option trade on AAPL with a massive 85.6% gain in 3 days. Wins like this make all the losses pale in significance. Pity it was only a $2 000 trade and not a $20 000 trade but my equity will grow and I'll get there. Since reading "Trading in the Zone" I'm just so much more confident now that I know about sample sizing (how casinos constantly win), determining the risk and treating each trade as unique. I have this feeling in my gut that I will be very successful at trading.

And the online business has been flying along... with the new ASR setup I'm able to create 10 Adsense sites with about 20 content pages within half a day. So by the end of the day I will have another 20 sites up. This system is just wonderful and is providing the leverage I was looking for. Tomorrow I start on my own product sites so that will be interesting. In fact stay tuned because I will tell you exactly which ones produce income first. Daryl and Andrew Grant are mentoring me on the own product sites - they created an ebook that generated $250 000 of sales in 12 months, so I have the best people to mentor me and it is so cheap, US$35 per month...

This Internet Stuff Keeps Me Busy

Boy what a week... It's amazing with the media saying that the miners story could be worth millions and then there will be royalties and more. I believe their lives will never be the same again. It will take some careful thought and management to help with their future, I just hope they stay the good people at heart that they are.

Well I have been flat out with 4 blogs and websites to add content to, daily reading of forums and the ebooks, it's become quite a task. such that I've looked at the ASR software which automates the making of the websites. I learned some time ago that the cash generated is not from the building of the sites, but from the promotion of the sites. so it's important that I spend 10% of my time generating the websites and 90% promoting them. I've registered some domains so hopefully in the next day or so I'll be generating some sites. I've got 23 niche sites with all the content waiting to go up so I'm quite excited.

I've been running or walking daily and considering a month ago I couldn't run for 4 minutes I doing really well in that my last run was 16 minutes. We bought a heart rate monitor which has made it easier to make sure I'm in the right fat burning range. The weather in Bunbury has been absolutely fantastic with nice chilly mornings and warm days - just great for exercising.

A fantastic Ozzie victory... what a fantastic rescue team who worked tirelessly to free these men, what great management and what remarkable miners to survive that ordeal. My well wishes go out to the families involved... may their lives continue to improve and move on from this. Brant and Todd have become household names. We will remember Larry who unfortunately lost his life and our hearts are with his family today, the day of his funeral.

This amazing story has ceratinly motivated me to re-address certain areas in my life. Just thinking about what they would have spoken about down there, their regrets, their wishes, their history.... I cant wait to hear their story. Our heroes.

Miners' story worth 'a million at least': "With media organisations now circling freed miners Todd Russell and Brant Webb, celebrity agent Max Markson reckons their story is easily worth more than $1 million.
Mr Markson said he was not aware if any deal had yet been done.
He said there could be a TV and magazine deal and maybe a tele-movie and a book.
Asked whether the story was worth more than $1 million, he replied: 'Actually, yes,' he told ABC radio.

'It will be a TV magazine deal and if they do separate deals it will mean maybe Channel Nine and maybe Woman's Day can do a deal and Channel Seven and New Idea can do a deal.
'They will earn more money if they do separate (deals) than if they do a bulk deal together.'
Mr Markson said the pair had a great sense of humour and could easily go on the talk circuit.

Trapped miners face 14th night underground. 08/05/2006. ABC News Online: "Two Tasmanian miners are facing their 14th night underground as the rescue team drills a difficult right angle approach close to the men.

It is not known how long it will take but Brant Webb and Todd Russell are said to be in reasonable health and good spirits.

Miners are finishing the final horizontal stretch before tunnelling through about 1.5 metres of vertical rock to the trapped men.

As the Beaconsfield mine defends the prolonged rescue operation, saying it is taking the safest route, community members are subdued but supportive.

Paul Medling drove 45 minutes from Launceston to be at the mine.

'I suppose you would get a bit anxious, wouldn't you. Most people would get a bit anxious and all said you're going to come out today, and then 2 o'clock in the morning, and it goes on and on,' he said.

Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery says he hopes the two miners are freed safely.

Major General Jeffrey says he has been closely following the news coverage of the rescue operation.

He says Mr Webb and Mr Russell's reported positive outlook is reflective of a typically Australian attitude.

'All of us have been praying for the successful rescue of the two miners. It just brings home to all of us the courage of all Australians in deep adversity,' "

'Cheeky' miners bide time - National - theage.com.au: "The two Tasmanian men trapped underground for the past 10 days are in good spirits and being rather 'cheeky', despite the rescue effort proceeding more slowly than expected.

Paramedic Karen Pendrey, the first woman to speak to the two men, said: 'They do have times when they're really chirpy and really chatty and then they do have times when they're really sick of being in there.''

Ms Pendrey grew up in the area and has been able to chat the men about family and local matters. She also said they had been very cheeky but declined to elaborate.

They do have a sense of the national support effort and the media coverage.

'When we go down we make a bit of a joke and say `oh yeah we've got to fight our way down through the media to get to you' as a bit of a joke and they find that quite amusing.'' Ms Pendrey said."

I can see it now, these 2 men are going to be very wealthy in the future as they make a movie out of their story. Let's hope the entire town benefits as the likely hood of this mine going back into full production is slim and many people will be out of jobs as the mine is the single largest employer.

It's times like this when I think "am I really on the right life path?" Life is so fragile and sometimes I lose focus of the real priorities in life. It's so easy to get distracted. I can only imagine what is going through the trapped miners minds down there... I think they may be considering a change of jobs, but more importantly they will be thinking of all the cherished times in their lives with loved ones. My heart goes out to every one of the family and friends of the 3 miners involved.

My First Website

Yipeeeee my first website is completed and on the web and within one week has earned some money form the Google ads. Have a look at www.better-satellite-tv-reviews.com and let me know what you think. I must say this online marketing is kinda fun but boy oh boy does it soak up the time and it gets pretty lonely. The plus side is that I will add new content to these sites periodically for better search engine ranking but they should produce $$ for a long time to come - good old passive income while I sleep. And now I've done one they should get easier and easier.

The US stock market has been very choppy of late so I have been very hesitant to persist with trading. It's one of those times when I stand back and observe. I am reading a brilliant book "Trading in the Zone by Mark Douglas" which is very timely and just the first few chapters have rung big bells in my head about rules and how we are conditioned as kids... So very true but it's amazing how I need to be constantly reminded.

Profitfitness is proceeding slowly. I have completed my lead generation ad, sales letter and application letter for my one on one tri-level one on one marketing and this week will produce a marketing plan.

It gets depressing when I am doing, doing, doing and the till is not going kaching, kaching, kaching but I know everything will come in at once... it always does. My life revolves around dry spells and then all of a sudden the drought is broken. I'm quite used to it and I constantly try and make the wet spells bigger and bigger. Can't say the same for my Wife, she hates there not being a constant income coming in and is still mentioning very subtly the dreaded "job" word.

I will persist until I succeed, I can feel that massive pay day coming, I can.

Set Daily Goals

Matt Furey has been a great inspiration for me in terms of my health and creating an income online. His exercise techniques have helped my fitness levels but more importantly he teaches ways to change your state of mind, which has been a great help when I'm feeling yuck. Matt talks about exercising the body and the mind as one and this has also help tremendously.

Matt has this to say about goals "When most people talk about goals they usually refer to their one-year, 5-year and 10-year plans.
Nothing wrong with that.
However, in order to have a constant feeling of success coarsing through your veins, I always advise having 'daily' goals to accomplish.
By daily goals I do not mean your "to do" list. Not at all. I mean something you can do each day to be creatively alive; something you can point to and say, "Look what I accomplished today. Look what I achieved. Look what I created."
It might be a fitness goal. You make your goal of walking 5 miles.
It might be a writing goal. You start and finish that article you've been thinking about.
It might be a painting; or the closing of a sale.
As a college wrestler I realized that when I went to practice with a specific goal, I ruled the room. The same opponent in practice whom I would struggle to beat would be mince-meat if I had a goal to throw him, for example, 20 times. I proved this over and over.
Your mind loves something to focus on; a target to hit.
And every day that you hit at least one target - that's a day in which your confidence soars.
At the beginning of each day, ask yourself, "What do I want to create today. What goal do I want to accomplish today."
Write down the answer - then get going.
Throw yourself into action and watch how the hours go by.
Why. Because you're creatively alive. And that's a good way to live."

Easter Saturday feeding kangaroos

Easter has come and gone and again we reflected on the meaning of Easter. It's great when your children put meaning into those Easter Eggs. A trip to Busselton to walk the 2km long jetty on Friday and another trip to Margaret River, the Dolphin Discovery Centre and the Big Swamp on Saturday was in order as my Sister and her family visited from New Zealand.
I must say it was very strange not seeing the family for 8 years... you tend to grow apart and I noticed a big difference in personal growth. I am not one for small talk and struggle to communicate with people that are not hugely, passionately driven in life to succeed. Must be something wrong with me! It was amazing to see my nephew who I had never seen before. The worst part was saying goodbye to him. Unfortunately I had one of my 3 day headaches and was numb on painkillers, and the depression has hit me like a sledge hammer... dunno if it was old wounds that were reopened or missing Eric (my nephew) but it's horrible. I went for a walk and like I do most days gave thanks for everything I have in my life - wonderful kids, amazing wife, great house in the best country, great health, so many opportunities etc. It helped slightly but strangely I'm feeling better as I write this.

But its time to "pull myself towards myself" to refocus and get on with it. Late last week I had completed the first 2 pages of my first AdGold Rush site, uploaded it and it was looking great. I then made some changes to the CSS style page and by mistake saved it as my index page and lost my original site... 8 hours of work down the drain... aaaaaarghhhh. But I will NEVER make that mistake again so we will put it down to experience and move on today. My goal this week is to have 3 AdGold Rush sites completed by Sunday so I better getting moving...

So Many Opportunities!

I'm diseased and the disease is called "Information overload". I vowed at the beginning of the year to stay focused and concentrate on 3 things and do them well. But I constantly get these emails - create your own product and sell it on line for a better return, why create your own product when you can sell someone else's and create a better income, don't use x and y affiliate program because there have been complaints, adsense rely's heavily on search engine optimization.... and on and on. Then you read all the forums and the blogs and then the day is over... Where did all the time go?? And I haven't exercised, or eaten, or played with the kids, or played golf in 3 months!! We are almost half way through April and I am producing an average of $3 per day from Adsense, no affiliate sales, potentially have 1 coaching client (they haven't signed the agreement, but I am 99% sure they will) and my trading is going downwards big time. Absolutely nowhere near where I had planned to be??

What the heck is wrong...

I'll tell you, LACK OF FOCUS. So many things to do, got to check the emails, check the trades from last night, check the forums, check the blogs and there is NO FOCUS. My plan of having a day dedicated to property, a day to internet, a day to trading, a day to update the accounts, a day for coaching... doesn't work. I am ending up with little bits done of everything and nothing completed.

TIME TO FOCUS... what has the highest potential of success. That would have to be the Adgold Rush and the coaching.
Change of plan Mon, Tues and Wed every week will be dedicated to Adgold Rush. Thurs, Friday and Sat will be dedicated to coaching.

Now I feel better.

Please learn from my mistakes... choose one thing to do and attack it with a vengeance, don't get distracted, don't worry that you don't know everything and have a great desire to succeed.

Adgold Rush will be my Gold Mine.

April already and my sisters birthday this month... another year wiser! Happy Birthday sis and enjoy Scotland... I'm very jealous as they travel the world.

Well the Postie brought my Adgold Rush package to my door and WOW I'm blown away. I mean I've bought tonnes of stuff from all over the world with schemes and ways to grow my wealth while I sit at home in my undies enjoying the scenery out the study window. I won't tell you how much I've spent (for fear of my wife reading this) but it's lots... and the Adgold Rush package is one of those better investments. It's a package that not only provides brilliant content for Adsense sites but provides great tutorials and templates for creating the sites, amazingly good information on top keywords with every number you could possibly require to make the best decision and... the forum is fantastic because they cater largely for newbies like me. I dont feel like an idiot asking simple questions. Again it's all down to the implementation and it's up to me.

I just get so impatient and frightened that I am spending time doing something that may reward us later when I could be out there earning $40 an hour. I have the rent to pay, the water bill, the phone bill.... But I know with perserverance I'll get there and with a JOB (Just Over Broke) I won't. A little bit of pain now will reward us big time later. It has to, the internet is so huge and the info plentiful that it should be easy to make a million dollars on the net... it's just finding the right way and the only way I can do that is with persistance. The only way I'll fail is if I give up...

Fortunately I have a family that would have to be the absolute best in the world. A wife that is incredibly supportive, never mind stunningly beautiful, and kids with great morals and ethics. I can feel it in my gut that we will be abundantly happy.

Well I need to go do some mining and find that pocket of Gold.

The Strategy

Even the best laid plans go by the wayside when you live in a fabulous country, in a stunning town on the coast with perfect weather. It is a beautiful sunny Autumn day, the temps are just perfect day and night and I wanna be on the beach... But I should be grateful, after all I don't have to go to a JOB (Just Over Broke), I've been self employed for 4 years and have designed my life so that today I don't have any staff, work from home and everyday do what I please. I watched V8 Supercar racing on the weekend and next weekend I'll be watching the Formula 1 and V8 Supercars... truth be told the racing sends shivers up my spine as I dream one day of owning a succesful race team. Life is fantastic and I've never felt any better.

But I have lots still to achieve so what is my strategy? I want time and financial freedom with health, happiness and contribution for my family. I hear all my poor friends say "Money is not everything" and my Mother's voice "Money doesn't grow on trees" as they struggle through life. But then I see my rich friends enjoying their lives as they travel the world and have wallets full of money... granted they haven't got their balance completely right, but believe me, there is a lot less stress and worry about money. Infact they have a completely different attitude towards material possessions while the poor friends protect them like a crystal glass.

The book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki has had a profound effect on my life and I now watch and learn from the people that have made it. Contribution is probably my biggest desire in life and the satisfaction associated with this would be huge. I can't wait until the day I source charities and people hard done by, to distribute 10% of my earnings to.

How am I going to get there? Well in the past I have some limited success with trading options on the US market, very very limited success online, fairly ok success with 2 businesses, better success with eBay, but the best success from property. While property has been successful I need to improve my cashflow so that I meet the debt serviceability requirement of the bank. So the focus will be on cashflow. Somebody said "Cashflow is King" boy are they right.

Cashflow - my options are:

eBay is already set up as we sell our junk in the shed but it's proving a problem when items have to be packed and posted, labour intensive. eBay will work better for me when I have developed my own ebook or product that I make once and sell over and over = leverage. Adsense, I paid some marketer big money to set up 34 adsense sites and at the present return it will take 12 years to recover the cost... what an idiot. However since then I've come across Liz Sherwood and it looks like I may be able to crank them up with some tweaking and Liz is also providing some unique content which will boost the rankings. Affiliates, well I'm promoting them in my blogs but until the traffic gets up there I don't expect much from that. I bought Yanik Silver's public domain package which is fantastic but I have failed to implement it. Who said the trick is not in the education but in the implementation of the education!! I'll get there now I have a plan...

Ok, I'm convinced, I need to focus initially on coaching small businesses to market better. I mean I've got mountains of stuff from Dan Kennedy, Yanik Silver, Mal Emery, Peter Sun and more... It's got to be worth $$$ to business owners as advice. Cool, today I'll complete a mindmap and tomorrow the implementation...

About a month later I gave her a quick call to see how things were going for her. Her situation wasn't a great deal better but her attitude towards fulfilling her dreams seemed to be right on track...

I broke my blog

That's what happens when you try to be too clever... you break your blog. I looked at someone else's blog and they had inserted adsense ads into each post, so I tried to do the same. But not only did I do that, I changed my sidebar titles at the same time and hit save and publish.

Well, when I went to have a look at the blog, the sidebar was gone.. Bye.. See you later.. I've become invisible..

Oh noooooo what have I done, I've broken it.

I know nothing about html, but someone told me to look at the code of another site and copy it. Well easier said than done, now I know it wasn't the best advice. But, surely if I reverse what I've done to the sidebar code then that'll fix it, after all it is the sidebar that I can't see, right? Well 2 days later of extreme frustration I find out the problem is not with the side bar code because I've changed the template and it still won't work... so I think, what else did I do that day. Now fortunately I keep a journal of what I do everyday so I can refer back to it... handy when you are learning and guess what... I had made a post that day. So I decide to delete the post. As I'm about to delete the post I see a weird bit of code at the bottom, say's something about Google!!

Surely that can't be the problem?

Guess what... it was the problem. Such a simple thing.

Moral of the story - if you have a problem dont spend hours getting frustrated, go to bed and try again when you are relaxed because you will be amazed how things just come to you.

Dreams and Goals

I've been going over my strategy for this year and obviously the place to start is with my dreams and goals. Craig Turnbull from Aspire has amassed millions of dollars using property as his primary vehicle.

Craig says: "A goal is not a goal until you commit it to writing. The act of placing it clearly in letters on paper using a pen held in your own hand begins the process of programming your sub-conscious mind towards achieving your goal. You should have short, medium and long term goals. If you only set yourself goals that have a ten-year deadline, you will not have the thrill and reward of achieving on a regular basis.

You do need to anchor the feeling of achieving your goals with a reward of some kind. In this way, your sub-conscious mind will know that good things happen when you reach your goals. So set a series of goals - some with a deadline of a week, a month, three months, six months, one year, five years and ten years. And when you do achieve a goal reward yourself! Train your mind to associate a positive experience with reaching your goal. Lastly, when you do achieve your goals, make sure you set new ones!

Don't set your goals too low. If you don't need much, you won't achieve much or become much. Create a bigger need if you want to achieve more. Realise that there are no limits, other than those you set for yourself. Now I do not mean that you can flout the Laws of Physics and learn to fly by flapping your arms simply because you had a goal that said you would achieve this by a week from next Thursday. Temper your enthusiasm with realism. If you do not, your mind will simply not believe you can achieve and your sub-conscious will just feed this back to you. Result is you will not even go close to your objective and you will unconsciously lose the belief that goals can help you design your life."

It is from Craig's teachings that I have set this million dollar challenge which will fulfill my financial and contribution goals, but at the same time I have also set my health, family, relationship and spiritual goals. It all counts to having a balanced life.

Time flies in Oz

Where do the hours go? I'm sure the minutes are shorter in Australia because of our downunder position in the world... or maybe I'm just having so much fun time flies.

I received an email from Dan Kennedy today - subject was "Secret To Maximum Achievement."
He says "A Secret To Maximum Achievement, So Simple It's Almost Embarrassing To Talk About. In a program on investing, 7 STEPS TO 7 FIGURES, its author makes this statement: it's not the stocks you pick that make you rich, it's that you choose to invest in stocks. In abbreviated form, here it is: it's not the specific actions you take that make you rich as much as it is that you take a lot of actions."

How true is that, we need to take MASSIVE action... And MASSIVE action is what I'm taking and I'm enjoying life and time is flying.

What is XML and RSS?

The term RSS refers to a syndication format, sometimes known as Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary. Each RSS feed is simply a text document containing a list of articles and descriptions. When coupled with a RSS reader you have the ability to stay informed without having to revist this blog everyday.

Instead you are shown a list of headlines and descriptions which give you enough information to decide if you want to read the article. For example, the Ian McConnell blog RSS feed contains a list of our current articles containing only the headline, link and description of each article.
Another benefit of RSS feeds is that they are guaranteed to be spam-free. Whereas in the pre-RSS days you might receive updates about new content through e-mail, the current trend is toward using RSS. With RSS you can't possibly be spammed because the news feed is referenced directly from the content source. You get only the content you ask for, and no one can send you any news that you don't want!

Another wonderful sunny day in Bunbury, Western Australia and I'm alive and healthy.... YES!!

Well I said I was going to tell you about myself... and my family.

This is a pic of me and my wonderful wife Deb on holiday in Bridgetown about 100kms from where we live. The town we live in is on the SW coast of Australia (the best part of Oz) and is growing well because of the industry in the area (population about 60 000). We are about 180kms south of Perth and enjoy magnificent weather most of the year and being on the coast there is a lot to do.

Now I'll rewind and give you some history in fast forward...

I was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe in 1965. At 1o years of age I started learning the art of Goju Ryu Karate-Do and at 17 years of age was graded as a black belt. Those Karate years developed my discipline and made me realise I could achieve anything I set my mind to. I won many kata and randori bouts and a local championship. After leaving school not knowing what to do my Dad told me to get an Electrical apprenticeship... thank God he did because this allowed me access into Australia later. I completed my apprenticeship, worked for 2 different companies to gain experience and then decided to go on my own. Unfortunately work as a self employed Electrician started drying up after a year so I diversified and started installing electric gates.

The security situation in Zimbabwe fueled massive growth in my business especially as we constantly added to the range of security products. Fortunately after a few years a large competitor came along and offered to purchase the company. At that time I was tired of the stress and other nonsense that happens with running a small business so this sounded like a good idea. I was to stay on as the Managing Director with a healthy package and the buyers had aggressive growth plans. We then grew this business by over 300% within 10 months, had 40 employees and selling all over the country.

During this time I met my wonderful wife and I knew from the very first day I saw her that she would be the one... just a wonderful feeling. We have now been married nearly 15 years and it has been fantastic. During this time we had 2 boys, Ross who is now 12 and Troy who is 9, both fantastic kids full of respect and kindness. 1 year after the sale of the business we decide that Zimbabwe would not be the best place for our kids future, even though we had just built a magnificent thatch roofed house on a massive block. Very teary eyed we sold everything we owned knowing full well we could not take any money with us (as it had no value elsewhere), but knowing our assets would devalue to nothing if we kept them (because of the downward slide of the Z$ to the other currencies). Deb and the kids stayed with Deb's parents while I set off to Australia in search of a better life.

Why Australia? Well Deb had traveled to the UK in her younger days and didn't like the weather and friends in Oz had told us how wonderful it was so the decision was made... and importantly Australia needed Electricians. I landed in Brisbane, East Australia in October 1998 very scared. Here I was relying on friends to house and feed me and my possessions included a suitcase of clothes and a resume. I wasn't allowed to legally take more than Z$1 000 from Zim which was less than A$100. I will be eternally grateful to those friends that helped me in Brisbane and Perth... one day I will return the favour hugely... thank-you. To cut a long story short I was provided the wrong information by a ruthless immigration consultant that was heavily marketing in Zim and after 6 weeks he told me I wouldn't be able to get a job because my trade papers would not be accepted. This gutted me because it meant I would have to go back to Zim... and we had sold everything. Survival instinct kicked in and I made calls to all the different Oz states energy commissions to see if the rules were the same. one after the other the rules were slightly different but they wouldn't accept me writing a trade test unless I had residency in Oz. But I needed the Electrical licence so I could apply for jobs which would then sponsor me into the country... Last of all I phoned the West Australian Energy commission and because of the trade shortage they were prepared to trade test me.... hipeeee. 3 months later I had an Electrical licence and was working in Alice Springs, fully sponsored by a large Electrical contractor. 3 months after that my family joined me in Alice Springs (the very centre of Oz).

3 years later we very willingly became Australian Citizens and have never looked back since. We moved from Alice Springs to be by the coast for our boys sake (I didn't argue, the high temps in Alice Springs was getting too much) and after 4000kms of driving and a speeding fine ended up in Bunbury on the South West Coast. 2 weeks after arriving we both had jobs, the kids were in school and we found a great house... so it was meant to be. 12 months after arriving in Bunbury I formed a telecommunications business called Telephones Unlimited which we sold about 12 mths ago for a nice profit.

And now... I work from home and make money from marketing on the internet, trade options on the US market, have an eBay business and coach a handful of clients to market their businesses better. We have always done ok and have progressed a long way in the last 10 years but I feel like there is so much more that we can do. This challenge is going to be the break through, it is going to be the break which will give us financial freedom and allow us to contribute by helping others that need it. it is going to be a great path and my hope is that anyone reading this can and will apply some similar strategies to their life so that they can also enjoy a better life. I also hope that anyone out there that can offer some advice or assistance will comment.

The challenge

I just want to do what I want, when I want, with who I want. Can I do it... You bet I can.

This blog will be my daily diary of where I am now, what I am doing, what my future plans are and my progress along the way. I will be relying on the help of the blogging community to guide me and offer any advice they can.

My goal is to create healthy happy financial abundance for my family. I am hoping that other bloggers will follow suit and I would love to hear stories, success or otherwise, from everyone.

I have a magnificent feeling about this and have decided that in June of every year I will donate 10% of my income to charity and another 5% will be used to give away... something I've always wanted to do. I read a story yesterday, which brought tears to my eyes, where some entrepreneurs at a small restaurant put a few hundred dollars in an envelope and asked the waitress to give it to a truckie who looked like he could do with a little help. They tipped the waitress very well not to tell and observed... The truckie opened the envelope, looked inside and buried his face in his hands as emotion took over. A few minutes later he walked over to his truck, fell to his knees and gave thanks.

In the next few days I will tell you more about us and where I am at now.
